George Washington Bridge Port Authority Bus Terminal
Washington Heights, New York

A 15,000 square foot fitness club fitout at the bus level of the Port Authority building at Broadway and West 178th Street in the Washington Heights neighborhood of Manhattan,. The Bus Terminal was originally designed by Pier Luigi Nervi in 1963 on the Manhattan side of the George Washington Bridge, the busiest bridge in the world. Blink Fitness was part of a multi-year renovation project to the building that included upgrades and additional retail tenants.

Issues specific to this project involved translating and adapting the Blink prototype to fit the strict regulations of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, including documenting required sustainability guidelines. The project was successful due to close collaboration with the base building architect, the client and the Port Authority and overcoming many design and coordination issues at a challenging location.
